The Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike,
Prof Hillary Edeoga has launched an intra-campus shuttle for students
with 20 new Suzuki cars and two mini buses donated by the institution’s
micro finance bank.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the vehicles will be used for the
purpose of transporting students within the school and from Umuahia town
on daily basis free of charge provided they present their identity
cards to the drivers as the fare had been paid with their school fees.
He also mentioned that he was inspired to buy the vehicles due the
recklessness of motorcycle operators in and out of the school and
recalled an incident in which a student was serious injured in an
accident while riding as a passenger in a bike
He further stated that with the provision of the vehicles that there
will be no more commercial motorcycle operating within the campus.
In his opinion this will minimize the level of stress and difficulties
experienced by students coming to school in commercial vehicles and
provide a conducive environment for learning.
